Use painted steel screws when you will be mounting into a real wood surface, such as into the studs of your outside wall. When you use painted screws to mount your exterior vinyl shutters, you will be able to remove them again for regular maintenance such as during painting, scraping, and pressure washing the home's exterior.
Please note that when you order Mastic™ exterior vinyl shutters, both painted screws and shutterplugs are included. Order these if you need extras or replacements.

Description
Painted steel screws are commonly used by building contractors to install external shutters. They are great when you know you will be able to mount your vinyl external shutters into studs or other wooden surface. If the outside wall is made of stone, concrete, vinyl, brick, or another material that will require anchors, you might be better off using Mastic shutterplugs.
Mastic painted steel screws are color-coordinated to match Mastic external shutters and they are available in 15 pre-painted colors. Of course, you can paint these screws if you change your mind about the color of your external shutters later.
For external shutters that are 55" and less, Mastic recommends using 4 screws to mount each shutter (2 bags per shutter pair). Vinyl shutters 55" and over require 6 painted steel shutter screws each (3 bags per pair).

Frequently Asked Questions
- My exterior wall is uneven. How do I install my exterior vinyl shutters?
You can use ferrules (a short cylindrical pipe) as standoffs to keep your vinyl shutters stable. Simply paint them, trim to size, and mount them behind your exterior shutters. Do not to put wood blocks behind the vinyl exterior shutters because they will rot fairly quickly.
