Description
Made from a superior copolymer material and carefully engineered injection molds, Alcoa Vintage® vinyl window shutters are the best looking and most accurate recreation of natural wood shutters on the market. Not only are these vinyl shutters a cheaper alternative to wood shutters, Alcoa has managed to capture the beauty of real wood in a longer-lasting vinyl product.
When it comes to home maintenance, most people don't enjoy weatherproofing their wooden shutters and trying to keep them from rotting away. Vinyl shutters are less expensive and longer lasting, however not all of them look as beautiful as real wood shutters. Alcoa Vintage® shutters are the alternative that truly is the best of both worlds - low maintenance with the good-looks of natural wood shutters.
Alcoa standard louvered shutters fit nicely with the most popular sizes of windows and they are an inexpensive alternative to custom shutters. Standard shutters are injection molded in one piece and they are manufactured before you place your order. Alcoa standard louvered shutters are available in widths of 12" and 14 5/8" and in heights of 27", 31", 35", 39", 43", 47", 51", 55", 59", 63", 67", and 71". The 14 5/8" width standard louver shutters are also available in 75" and 81" lengths.
There are 15 baked-on acrylic colors available and if none of those suit your lifestyle, all of the colors can be repainted to any color you choose. The best part is you can change your house trim colors as often as you like without replacing your Alcoa vinyl shutters. Add our black plastic decorative hinges to your vinyl shutters for an even more authentic looking installation.
Construction
Alcoa Vintage® standard vinyl shutters are injection-molded in one piece at the Alcoa central factory. There are no joints that can come apart. This is the primary reason why only certain sizes are available - it would not be financially viable to build a mold in every conceivable shutter size.
The shutters are then placed in a warehouse where they are inventoried until they are ordered. This is why standard sized shutters are often referred to as "stock shutters", "premade shutters", or "one piece shutters".
After the shutters are ordered, they are spray painted with the desired color of paint which is then baked on to ensure a durable finish. Alcoa vinyl shutters are always hand inspected to ensure they meet the highest quality standards before they are shipped.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will painting these exterior vinyl shutters diminish the wood grain texture?
No. Although the texture is not as deep as with some other brands of vinyl shutters, Alcoa Vintage® shutters still look like real wood even with a coat or two of paint applied.
-
How do I remove the Shutterplugs from the vinyl shutters once they are in place?
Slide a chisel behind the vinyl shutter until it comes in contact with the Shutterplug. Make sure to keep the sharp edge of the chisel away from the wall. Give the chisel a sharp tap with a hammer and it will cut through the Shutterplug. After the shutter is removed, shear the remaining part of the Shutterplug flush with the surface and bore out the shank with a drill. Fill the hole with silicone to weatherproof. See our Vinyl Shutter Removal Instructions for additional information.
-
My exterior wall is uneven. How do I install my exterior vinyl shutters?
You can use ferrules (a short cylindrical pipe) as standoffs to keep your vinyl shutters stable. Simply paint them, trim to size, and mount them behind your exterior shutters. Do not to put wood blocks behind the vinyl exterior shutters because they will rot fairly quickly.
-
I am looking for Cellwood exterior shutters and I noticed Alcoa exterior shutters have the same colors. Will Alcoa exterior shutters match my Cellwood vinyl shutters?
Yes. Alcoa exterior shutters are a compatible product with Cellwood exterior shutters. The colors are exactly the same and if they are installed side-by-side it is unlikely you would be able to tell the difference.

The Jalousie window was one of the first attempts at combining the glass of
a window with movable louvered shutters.
The windows are constructed with horizontally mounted glass louvered slats that
butt against each other tightly when closed and rotate outward when cranked open.
These "louvered" windows were used along coastal regions of the United States
in the 60's and 70's, but have since gone out of fashion.
