Vinyl shutters, sometimes referred to as plastic shutters, were invented shortly after vinyl siding in the late 1950's and to this day are primarily made by vinyl siding manufacturers. Shutters made of vinyl are now more popular than any other material because vinyl shutters are economical, easy to install, and long lasting. While vinyl shutters cannot be installed with operable shutter hinges, they still are a beautiful decorative addition to any home and require little or no maintenance after they are installed. Putting vinyl shutters on a home can be done by almost any do-it-yourselfer in a matter of hours and since they typically come pre-molded in a specific color, finishing (and refinishing) vinyl shutters is not required. Exterior vinyl shutters are one of the lowest-cost ways to boost curb appeal on a home.
