| How do I determine the proper size of exterior shutters for my windows? |
Please see the How To Measure page for measuring instructions.
| Is there a minimum order to get free shipping? |
No. However, there is a $5.00 handling fee for all orders under $100.00 except when the order consists entirely of exterior shutter color sample kits.
| If I don't like my exterior shutters, can I return them and get my money back? |
If you ordered standard sized shutters, we can accept a return. Most of the exterior shutters on our web site are custom made to your specifications and we cannot accept returns for refund on custom shutters. However, we will try to make whatever necessary adjustments we can to ensure your satisfaction. Please see our Returns Policy for complete details.

| How is my order shipped? |
We ship your order via well-known, reliable carriers such as United Parcel Service, Federal Express, or ABF Freight. Shipping is provided to you free of charge on all orders. We choose the best carrier depending on the size and weight of your order and your location. Larger orders are shipped via freight carrier. We provide tracking information under the Order Status section of our website when the order is shipped.
| When will my order be shipped? |
Generally within 4-7 business days from the receipt of the order for items that can be built with in-stock materials. Items with out-of-stock materials may take up to 4 weeks to ship.
| Are your exterior shutters solid or hollow? |
Our exterior shutters are hollow. They are easy to install and virtually maintenance free. They are a facade of vinyl that is approximately 60 mils thick on average.
| Can I order a custom color? |
No. If you need to have a custom color to match your needs, we have a paintable type of exterior vinyl shutter available. Simply select the paintable color option when ordering.
| How do I remove the Shutter-Loks once they are in place? |
Slide a chisel behind the shutter until it comes in contact with the Shutter-Lok. Make sure to keep the sharp edge of the chisel away from the wall. Give the chisel a sharp tap with a hammer and it will cut through the Shutter-Lok. After the shutter is removed, shear the remaining part of the Shutter-Lok flush with the surface and bore out the shank with a drill. Fill the hole with silicone to weatherproof. See our Shutter Removal Instructions for additional information.
| My wall is uneven. How do I install my exterior shutters? |
You could order ferrules (a short cylindrical pipe) and trim to size. Or you could put a piece of 1/2" irrigation pipe painted the same color as the wall if you don't have ferrules. Do not to put wood blocks behind the exterior shutters because they will rot fairly quickly.
| What are the advantages of vinyl shutters over wood shutters? |
The color-through molded vinyl shutters are easy to install, easy to clean, do not warp, crack, fade, peel, split, or rot. Exterior vinyl shutters also provide better resilience than wood shutters under harsh conditions, such as near the ocean or in areas that receive heavy rainfall.
| Do I have to assemble the board and batten shutters? |
When ordering from ShutterContractor.com, all of our exterior vinyl shutters come fully assembled and sonically welded. There is no assembly required. This is not true when ordering from many other exterior shutter outlets.
| Are the exterior shutters warranted? |
Yes. Our exterior shutters are covered under a 40-year transferable warranty. Please refer to the Vinyl Exterior Shutters Warranty to get all of the details.
| Is the warranty transferable if I sell my house? |
Yes.
| I am looking for Cellwood exterior shutters and I noticed the Alcoa exterior shutters you sell have the same colors. Will your Alcoa exterior shutters match Cellwood vinyl shutters? |
Yes. Alcoa exterior shutters are a compatible product with Cellwood exterior shutters. If they are installed side-by-side you won't be able to tell the difference.
| I am unable to install my exterior shutters. Can you recommend someone in my area that can help me? |
We do not have a network of installers at our disposal, but we can recommend that you call a local general contractor or carpenter. You will be responsible for the cost of the installation.
| What are the shutters made of? |
The color-through molded exterior shutters are made of Duraprene and the paintable type shutter is made of Styrene.
| I repainted my house recently and now my exterior vinyl shutter color doesn't match. Can I repaint them? |
If you have the paintable style, yes. If you ordered the color-through molded shutter, no. The paint will not stick to the vinyl shutters and the warranty will be void.
| What type of paint do I use on my paintable type of exterior vinyl shutters? |
We recommend a flat or semi-gloss latex based paint and if possible, use a spray system to apply.
