Exterior Shutter Width
|
IMPORTANT: The actual width for vinyl shutters may be slightly
larger or slightly smaller than the width you choose, and will vary from one color to
the next. These are normal variations due to the vinyl shutter manufacturing process. If the space
is limited where you are installing your vinyl shutters, please contact us before placing
your order so we can give you a precise width measurement.
To choose the correct width of shutters for your home, it is usually best to find a single
width that works for all of your windows. Keep in mind that vinyl shutters are for decorative
purposes only. In general it is best to order exterior vinyl shutters that are 25% to 33% of
the width of your window (including the window frame) for the best look.
That said, if you want to make the decorative shutters look like they will close over your windows, it
is also perfectly acceptable. In this case you would order outdoor shutters that are 50% of the
window width. Exterior shutters should never exceed 50% of the window width, so when
ordering vinyl shutters you should err on the side of being narrower than 50% of the
window width when your exact size is not available.
For example, if you have a 30 inch wide window, your "ideal" shutter width would be
15 inches. Since we don't always have a 15 inch size available, the next best match
would be 14 1/2 inch wide window shutters.
We have provided the following chart to assist you as a general guideline with choosing
your vinyl shutter width.
